Day 29 - Melville International Backpackers...
Wow, this is already my last blog entry. I am writing this from a comfortable chair at my parents house in Holland. The last day was so hectic that I did not have the time to do it back in South Africa. It does feel very weird to be back. It almost feels like a dream right now. Everything is so familiar here and I can’t even imagine that I was in the heat and the beautiful landscape of...

Day 28 - Old Vic Travellers Inn Nelspruit to...
This morning at 7.30am Kristina, Thomas and I left Old Vic Travellers Inn. Dave gave us a ride to Johannesburg, which was very nice of him. He even dropped us at Melville International Backpackers. On the way we stopped at a petrol station, because Dave wanted something to eat. Here we bought a chocolate bar for him, because we had promised him chocolate if he found us a leopard. And he had found...

Day 27 - Lower Sabie Kruger to Old Vic Travellers...
I skipped yesterday because I was just too tired and it was a lot like the first day in Kruger National Park with Old Vic. To sum it up we saw a lot of the same animals, but a few different ones. The first one we saw was the buffalo, now we had seen four out of the Big Five. Right across from the buffalo was a blue wildebeest. We had seen that on the night drive, but from a long distance. The...

Day 25 - Old Vic Travellers Inn to Lower Sabie...
This morning, or should I say last night, at 4am we had breakfast at Old Vic. It was nice to have something to eat before we went on the road to Kruger National Park. Just Kristina and Thomas, the couple from Denmark, and me were in the car with Dave the owner of Old Vic who also runs his own Safaris. Later we did pick up another person, Jozef from Belgium. He was very quiet the whole way...

Day 24 - Old Vic Travellers Inn
I got to sleep in this morning. It was great. I woke up 9.30am and not by an alarm clock this time. I did suddenly realise that I might have missed breakfast. When I asked my roommates they said that I had to give my order the day before. I did not know that, so I went to the bar anyways. It turned out that that was true, but I still could get breakfast. That was really nice, because I do not...

Day 23 - Lebo's Soweto Backpackers to Old Vic's...
This morning I had to leave Lebo’s Soweto Backpackers at 6.30am to be at the bus station on time. My alarm was set for a 5.45am, which I already thought was pretty early. I was wrong, because when the phone of the only other person in my room went off at 4 ,4.30 ,5 and 5.30am I knew what early was. The guy only got up at the same time I did, so I have no idea why his phone was going off so...

Day 23 - Lebo's Soweto Backpackers
At 10am this morning the full day Soweto bike tour would leave from Lebo’s backpackers, so I got up early enough to have breakfast at 9.30am. For breakfast I had a couple of options, but eventually I choose yogurt and cereal, like most mornings. Before leaving I got two bottles of water out of the honesty bar, because it looked like it was going to be a very hot day.  Outside the gate our...

Day 22 - Inkosana Lodge Drakensberg to Lebo's...
Again at 7.30am breakfast was served on the deck of Inkosana Lodge. This time it was mealie meal, also called polenta, instead of porridge. It was the first time I ever ate it, but it was really good. Kevin, Sizwe, Kate and I had breakfast together. We basically talked about politics and travel, which was fun. After breakfast I finally managed to get my backpack closed. I put my laptop in it...

Day 21 - Inkosana Lodge Drakensberg
At 7.30am each morning Ed from Inkosana Lodge serves breakfast. You do have to sign up the night before, but it is definitely worth getting up early. This morning he served porridge and cereals. As always his homemade bread was on the table with butter and jam. There is always coffee and tea in the kitchens, but if you want filter coffee you can get it as well. Filter coffee in this case means...

Day 20 - Happy Hippo Backpackers Durban to...
This morning at 6am I had agreed to meet someone I met last night at Happy Hippo to go swimming in the ocean. It is about a five minute walk, so I had some time before the Baz Bus arrived to have a nice swim, shower and pack. It was very difficult to get up though, because I was not able to go to sleep until about 4.30am. When my alarm went off I did get out of bed and put on a bikini. But I...

Day 19 - Happy Hippo Backpackers Durban
This morning I agreed to meet Michelle from Happy Hippo between 9 and 10. She wanted to tell me what she had planned for me. My plans have changed a bit since the beginning, because I wanted to spend more time in Drakensberg and Kruger Park. The people from Happy Hippo still thought I was spending four nights instead of two here. So they had an amazing program for me tomorrow and I am really...

Day 18 - Coffee Shack Coffee Bay to Happy Hippo...
About 5am this morning was the first time I woke up. After that I was able to sleep until 6am again, but unfortunately that was about it. Maybe I slept for 15 more minutes in total, but I was disturbed by the flies a lot. Probably because we went to sleep so early I just was not able to sleep through the sound of the flies and the heat of the sun shining though the window. But than again I...

Day 17 - Coffee Shack Coffee Bay
Today I am writing two blogs, because yesterday evening I could not bring my computer to the place that I stayed at. So I will refer to day 17 as yesterday. Yesterday I had to be at the bar of Coffee Shack at 9.30am to go on the hike to Hole in the Wall, or so I thought. I am probably so used to getting up early that I figured that I had to get up early again. At 9am I had breakfast at the bar...
