Wild walks and cave dwellers …
So after a big weekend in PE and George, it was time to get back on the road, albeit for all about 20 minutes down the Kaaiman’s River pass and into Wilderness. It has always been one of those places driven by and never visited. That was about to change. It’s a pretty striking view when you come out of the pass and the viewpoint on the N2 nearly does it justice but hides so much...

Inception ...
It’s all about a road trip in a road trip and hanging in George, which is in fact a town, not a curious monkey. I left Oudtshoorn, kind of bummed that i hadn’t really had a chance to get the full experience down, another place i will have to return to, but plans had been forged and a road trip to PE to see the Boks playing the English with some fella’s was about to get real. ...

Birds of a feather ...
So after waiting for the sun to start shinning and being rewarded with more grey i decided to head on knowing i would be back here as i didn’t get close to seeing all i wanted to. Next stop Oudtshoorn, a short way down the R62 and slightly more bustling than Calitzdorp. I arrived as the rain came down and figured i would head straight for the Backpackers Paradise and check it out … i had...

Dirt Roads and soup ...
So after a cold and wet night at Grootvaderbos Nature Reserve and a few days of grey skies i thought i would see if heading into the Klein Karoo might make things a little more sunny. I made my way down a dirt road towards Heidelberg,  and after a quick 20kms along the N2 to Riversdal,  the town where cows and churches outnumber the people, i hung a louie and headed through the Garcia Pass and...

Our drivers go over the phrases with the passengers and then they can practice speaking in the different languages. It will certainly keep you entertained...

The replenishment station ...
So before i had even got on the road Simon at HI South Africa said i must drop by Swellendam and go check out the Swellendam Backpackers and meet Steph the owner, he pretty much guaranteed i would have an epic time. Simon was not wrong. Leaving Malgas was kind of sad after having so many memories from the place but the trip goes on and Swellendam awaited, you have two routes one is well just a...

Strandlooper …
After a few killer day at L’Agulhas i headed further up the coast to walk on three different beaches and river mouths, swam in the sea and met an interesting fellow in the parking lot. I visited Die Mond nature reserve late in the afternoon, it was pretty grey and cold but the wandering river estuary which floods into an angry sea really has a stark beauty about it, patches of coastal...

Way Down South
After arriving on Sunday night after dark, i was amped to see what L’ Agulhas would reveal, i have been itching to get here for years and it hasn’t disappointed, it has exceeded expectations in every way possible. I set an alarm, which goes against my very ethos, but i really wanted to catch some epic morning light, and set out for the Southern most point of Africa to catch the...
